About FGASA

By guides. For guides. For 36 years

When you achieve a FGASA Designation, you carry the standard that shaped the guiding industry

Why FGASA exists

FGASA exists to support the professionalisation of the tourism sector through recognised standards, ethical conduct, professional development and voluntary professional recognition pathways.

Built by guides.

FGASA was founded in 1990 by a small group of guiding pioneers who recognised the need for professional standards and career recognition within the safari industry. What began as a grassroots effort to strengthen professionalism has evolved into a respected professional body serving guides and trackers across the continent.

What We Do

FGASA recognises and supports guides and trackers through professional designations, assessments, mentorship, standards development, ethics, continuous professional development and industry collaboration.

Recognised standards built on experience

FGASA helps maintain recognised professional standards through board examinations, practical assessments, verified workplace experience and ongoing development pathways.

Connected to the global guiding profession

FGASA is a Full Country Member of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations, connecting Southern African guides to a global network of professional guiding associations.
